NASHVILLE, TN – (April 20, 2011) – Fervent Records’ hot debut artist Chris August proved why he is quickly becoming a favorite in the genre at the 42nd Annual Dove Awards earning an impressive three awards at tonight’s show. August celebrates his first ever Dove Award wins with the prestigious “New Artist Of The Year” and “Male Vocalist of the Year” as well as in the category for “Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year” for his shining debut album No Far Away. The singer/songwriter earned the most awards of any new artist this year.
“I’m absolutely speechless,” shared August. “I am truly blessed to be able to make and share music. And then to receive this recognition is quite humbling.”
The 42nd Annual Dove Awards show will air on the Gospel Music Channel (GMC) on Sunday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m. EST.
Adding to the week’s excitement, August’s current single “7x70” landed at No. 3 on the Christian/AC Indicator chart. “7x70” is also from the Texas native’s break-through debut album, No Far Away, which is available everywhere now.
A vulnerable ballad about forgiveness that was influenced by his parents divorcing when he was in fifth grade, “7x70” is the follow-up to August’s debut single “Starry Night,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian/AC chart in September and stayed put for six weeks, launching this self-taught pianist, guitarist, and producer as an artist in his own right. August had previously toured as the keyboard player and opening act for pop sensation Ashlee Simpson and worked with Ryan Cabrera, Brian McKnight, and Jessica Simpson before shifting his focus to a solo career. He has put his refined skill-set to work by co-producing No Far Away with acclaimed producer Ed Cash, resulting in an emotionally resonant collection of soulful pop-rock sing-alongs, touching balladry, and heart-on-sleeve lyricism that has become the best-selling New Artist release in the Christian genre in 2010.
